History
The one and only Café Andino was founded in May of 1997, by a wandering adventurer from the USA. It began in a humble (and cheap!) rented cement cave here in Huaraz, with peeling walls, bad plumbing, and a crafty landlord. Fast forward to 2024, and we have truly evolved into our best version. We designed and built every curve and corner of this beautiful place, and it’s our highest hope that you love it as much as we do! Having come from Alaska in 1996, the founder was a confirmed “specialty coffee” enthusiast, and discovered quickly that coffee culture in the Huaraz area offered few choices. Instant, shelf-stable coffee like “Nescafe”, and esencia de cafe, (syrupy coffee concentrate) were the only options available. In this great country of coffee growing and production, all the good stuff was exported! Luckily, times have changed. Café Andino was the first to offer legit specialty coffee in Huaraz, and we have been roasting our own 100% organically grown Peruvian coffee since 2001. We buy directly from the farmers and co-ops in Rodriguez de Mendoza, (Amazonas) and Huánuco, and we roast this organic green coffee daily in Huaraz.
We’re often imitated, but never duplicated, since 1997
